Chicago International Film Festival

It's that time of year again - the Chicago International Film Festival is starting on the 8th of this month. This year, there are two Korean titles screening - A Frozen Flower and Mother. I personally have not heard anything on either, but the synopses for both sound promising. The latter is directed by Bong Joon-Ho (The Host, Memories of Murder) so it's definitely worth a look.

This is probably the best foreign film festival in Chicago and there are tons of movies from other countries that are worth checking out, including Red Cliff (John Woo) and a Hong Kong crime thriller titled Plastic City that looks really cool.

All of the films this year are being screened at AMC River East, which has stadium seating. Check the website for tickets and additional information.

YesAsia.com sale question

hi everyone! yesasia.com has a pretty decent sale going on with k-drama and blu-rays, the question is if anyone can tell me if there is anything really good on sale? i know nothing about the tv dramas so any thoughts would be appreciated. M looks interesting and a little weird ( i like weird usually). some of the blu's have nice prices but nothing jumps out at me so please offer recommendations if you have them! here is the link: http://www.yesasia.com/us/en/home.html

on another note, i don't own oldboy but want to get it....what version does anyone recommend? 3 disc, blu-ray, single disc, other regions, etc. any comparisons or picture quality references would be appreciated.

Trailer for Thirst

Finally, an actual trailer for Thirst. The images here are an interesting reminder of why I like vampire and zombie movies so much. When they are done well and taken seriously these films offer rich opportunities for satire and social commentary. The fears and inhumanity of these mythical creatures can turn a harsh mirror on ourselves in capable hands. I hope that this film will deliver the thought provoking material that the trailer seems to offer. We will hopefully see for ourselves fairly soon. Enjoy!
